 ARTISTIC FELLOWSHIP

a series of large-scale stained-glass panels, depicting queer figurative work. Navigating the themes of identity hierarchy considering sexuality and faith and the forms of trauma and healing process thereafter, the glasswork would integrate various methods of glass craft including neon tubing, fusing beadwork, cold working techniques, and laser-etching.

Gird Your Loins

Initially, this work was forged to process my physical assault and the duality of living as a queer Christian. Once sponsored by the Dickie’s X COLLAB Artistic Fellowship, gaining access to the innovation labs, I wanted to challenge the traditional narratives and techniques exampled in the stained glass craftsmanship, beyond the Catholic narrative. Fuse modern technology with the laser etched pieces throughout, I bent the parameters of how stained glass is made (ie. Can I draw with solder, use alternative materials and negative space, and challenge myself with organic shapes?) At large the piece surfaces questions about the architecture of self, unseen shapes of halo structures reckon with the vices we grip on to, and interlaced with references of Classical Antiquity iconography and folklore.

VISUAL ART + MOVEMENT

Unpolished Movement Portraits

are a celebration of the non-artistic parts of artists’ lives. Dancers and theater-makers can become passionate about chasing dreams, forgetting to celebrate the parts of ourselves that make us who we are as individuals. The process: an impromptu prompt, recording a one-minute voice memo on the topic’s answer, then an improv to the mover’s own thoughts. No music, no choreography, no rehearsal - only the audio response informs their movement. The soundbite and the video are done in at most two takes. They are snapshots of our hearts - the humanity under the artistry.”
